United’s iPhone App – How to Change Your Flight for Free

All airlines need to model their mobile app after United’s iPhone App and offer to change your flight for free1. When you need a United Airlines flight change, there is no better way than to use United’s Mobile App. It is one of the most useful travel tools I have…when I am flying on United that is. Recently I have used British AirwaysAmerican AirlinesSouthwest Airlines, US Airways, and Delta’s iPhone Apps. None of these Airline’s iPhone apps are as full-featured and easy to use as the United App. United Airlines Flight Change

The absolute best feature of the United iPhone App is the ability to change your flight for free!1 The day of your flight United’s App gives you the options for changing your flight right on the app.united-airlines-iphone-app-reservation-3 It isn’t easy to find this menu item; it is like United App developers are trying to hide it from you, but once you find it, you will see what flights are […]

Tegelberg Luge Ride in Germany

A short distance from our hotel I talked about in the post “Private European Tour for 20 Dollars” is Rick Steves recommended Tegelberg Luge. In the shadow of Neuschwanstein Castle, the Tegelberg luge is one of those rides that you see in a non-US country that you find it hard to believe exists because of the potential danger to life and limb they pose. As you can see from the video below, if you don’t use the brakes, you can pick up a lot of speed. Although you won’t fly out of the tracks, you could ram into the person in front of you who doesn’t have the same “need for speed” as you do.

You slide up the bank more as you pick up speed going down the hill, which adds to the excitement of the ride. Since there is no one at the top telling you when you can go, I recommend waiting some time for the person in front of you to get through the ride otherwise you may catch up to them. The track down the hill is nearly a kilometer long, and each run is pretty fast. […]

Rick Steves’ Private European Tour for 20 Dollars

We like being directed to the sites and fun things to do off the beaten path when traveling. Rick Steve’s travel guides are excellent at pointing these sites and activities out. We used an earlier version of Rick Steves’ Europe Through the Back Door 2013: The Travel Skills Handbook on our first trip to Europe in 1989 and have been a fan of books ever since. Over the years, this book changed more into a text about how to travel as opposed to a book on Rick’s favorite places and things to do.

When I found the book Rick Steves’ Germany and Austria 2007 I was pleasantly surprised to find out it had the tips and tricks I had grown to love about Rick Steves’ books. Although this book hasn’t been updated since the Rick Steves’ Germany and Austria 2008 […]

Briggs & Riley 22 Inch Expandable Carry-On – A Must Have

Several months ago I purchased the Briggs & Riley 22 inch Expandable Carry-On Series 200Briggs & Riley which when expanded is one of the largest by volume carry-on bags on the market. I have used it on two 2-week long business trips and feel it is the best carry-on available.  The curved corners make it look smaller than the “Business” equivalent Briggs & Riley 21 inch Expandable Carry-On or the Tumi Alpha International Expandable Carry-On. This is important when boarding as you don’t want the flight attendants at the gate to target your bag for gate check. The expansion is 3 inches, creating 38% more room in the bag, […]

Whitehorse: 25 mins hotel to plane

I am sitting in my seat on an Air Canada CRJ plane 25 mins after leaving my hotel. I left the hotel at 6:15 am for my 7 am flight, drove to the airport, returned the rental car, went through security (which included a full bag search), and boarded all in less than 25 mins.

I have done this before in Whitehorse but it still amazes me.
